Cameroon Passes Law to Boost Air Transport Business with Canada
Cameroon's National Assembly has approved a bill allowing President Paul Biya to ratify the Air Transport Agreement with Canada initially signed on June 1, 2022, in Yaoundé. This initiative aligns with the 1994 Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, where both nations are participating states. The agreement aims to remove financial barriers, including double taxation, and ease access to customs duties and other fees.

Glencore and Sinosteel cases in Cameroon
A mining contract signed by the Government of Cameroon with Sinosteel, a Chinese multinational, for an iron ore project was the centre of controversy in May 2022. Parliamentarians and some activists denounced the contract and demanded its cancellation because the agreement was disadvantageous for Cameroon. These are reminders that people need to know more about the agreements that give foreign companies the right to exploit and trade resources belonging to their countries. In most jurisdictions, non-renewable mineral resources are managed by the state on behalf of the people.
